Downtown Ault
I grew up around here. There's more to Ault than the name most buyers read on a highway sign at 60mph — a couple of good places to eat and a small-town character that's getting harder to find.
Ault is a small, close-knit agricultural town in Weld County, sitting along US Highway 85 just a few miles north of Eaton and about 12 miles north of Greeley. Founded in 1904, Ault has held onto its farming roots even as the broader Front Range grows up around it. It's the kind of place where Main Street antique shops, a slower rhythm, and open prairie views still define daily life, and where neighbors genuinely know each other. For buyers who want small-town quiet, easy highway access to Greeley and Fort Collins, and land that still feels like Colorado's high plains, Ault offers a slower pace without being far from anything.

The questions people actually ask Christine before they ask about houses — schools, the drive, and what's being built — answered for Ault specifically rather than for Weld County in general.
Ault is served by Weld RE-9 School District (Ault-Highland). Attendance boundaries decide which school a specific address feeds into, and they don't follow town lines — if a school is driving the move, send the shortlist over and we'll check the boundary on each address before you tour it.

Liberty Park is Ault's community park and the site of the town's annual Fall Festival each August. A small strip of local antique and secondhand shops along Main Street draws browsers from around Weld County. Ault also sits along the route east on CO-14 toward Pawnee National Grassland, home to the Pawnee Buttes Trail and some of the best birdwatching in Northern Colorado, roughly an hour's drive from town. Because Ault is very small, residents rely on nearby Eaton (about 6 miles south) for the A.J. Eaton Home and Carriage House Museum and the Eaton Area Community Center, and on Greeley (about 12 miles south) for larger shopping, dining, and entertainment.
Ault is small, but it does have a handful of genuine local spots, including a local cafe and pizza shop on Main Street. For a wider selection, Eaton (6 miles) and Greeley (12 miles) have considerably more dining options.
See More On Google Maps →Ault does not have its own dog park. The nearest real off-leash options are Rover Run Dog Park in Greeley (about 12 miles) or Poudre Pooch Park in Windsor (about 16 miles). Liberty Park in Ault is a fine leashed-dog spot for a local walk.
The Pawnee Buttes Trail in Pawnee National Grassland is a roughly 2-mile trail to the base of the first Pawnee Butte, with unique rock formations, reached via CO-14 east of Ault. The Great Western Trail, about a 10-15 minute drive south, and the Poudre River Trail, about 15-20 minutes south, are the closest longer trails.
Small-town Colorado is wonderful right up until you need dinner and a tank of gas. Here is the real answer for Ault — drive time, not straight-line distance, because out here those are not the same number.

3 places in and around Ault I actually go to. Where I eat, where I take clients, and what I would tell a friend who was moving here.

One of our favourite places to eat, right on 1st Street downtown. Breakfast only runs until 2:00, so don't turn up at half past expecting eggs.
Teresa and her husband make the wine here themselves, in what used to be a tractor store — she moved the whole operation up from Eaton to do it. Go on a reservation rather than turning up; it isn't a walk-in kind of place.
